Ancient Egypt, scribal palette reproduction, with red and black inks. Made from a piece of lacewood which was resawn into two pieces, then glued back after the the inkwells and storage cavity were cut from the two boards. Finally, the access ramp was carved to allow pens to slide into the cavity. Black ink is lamp black; red ink is Ercolano Red., from northern Italy.
