Ancient Egypt, scribal palette reproduction, with red and black inks.  Made from a  piece of maple which will be resawn into two  pieces, then glued back after the the inkwells and storage cavity are cut from the two boards. Finally, the access ramp will be carved to allow pens to slide into the cavity.  Black ink is lamp black; red ink is Ercolano Red (red ocher), from northern Italy.
